Accreditation Categories
How is accreditation awarded?
To be awarded the EYECAN accreditation your business will have to meet certain criteria. These vary depending on the type of business you are. By way of example:
Client facing business
For businesses that have clients coming in to the venue e.g. Bank, insurance broker, public services, retail shop, showroom or educational establishment.
To be awarded an accreditation as a client-facing business you will need to complete the following:
- Customer service sight awareness training specifically designed to give staff the confidence to engage with people with sight impairment;
- Mystery customer service experience where a sight impaired client will come into your business and access your service and report back on any issues or recommendations to improve your business;
- Complete all mandatory sections of the checklist;
- Glance assessment of your website to review accessibility;
- Be able to demonstrate reasonable adjustments that can be made to your business to allow access for people with sight impairment;
- Sign up to the EYECAN code of conduct;
- Access lunchtime talks for your business about the charity and its role in Jersey, raising awareness of the people living on the Island with sight loss.
Non-client facing business
For businesses where a client doesn’t come in to see you but may interact with you as an employee or as a service user.
To be awarded an accreditation as a non-client-facing business you will need to complete the following:
- Undergo sight awareness training specifically designed to give staff the awareness of sight loss and what can be done to aid service users or employees;
- Complete all mandatory sections of the non-client facing business checklist;
- Glance assessment of your website to review accessibility;
- Be able to demonstrate any reasonable adjustments have been made to your business to allow access for people with sight impairment;
- Sign up to the EYECAN code of conduct;
- Access lunchtime talks for your business about the charity and its role in jersey, raising awareness of the people living on the Island with sight loss.
Places of interest
For public businesses where visitors or customers with sight loss may visit e.g. States of Jersey buildings, Jersey Heritage sites, tourist attractions.
To be awarded an accreditation you will need to complete the following:
- Assessment by EYECAN’s Rehabilitation Officer, Chris Frost, of your business building and the access to and around your business;
- Undergo sight awareness training designed to give staff the awareness of sight loss and what can be done to aid people who want to access your place of interest;
- Be able to demonstrate any reasonable adjustments have been made to your business to allow access for people with sight impairment;
- Sign up to the EYECAN code of conduct;
- Access lunchtime talks for your business about the charity and its role in Jersey, raising awareness of the people living on the Island with sight loss.
