This new role will report directly to EYECAN’s Treasurer and Finance Sub-Committee but will also work very closely with the Operations Director and Management Committee. The position will require the post holder to communicate effectively with the dedicated and focussed team at EYECAN. The key elements of the role involve ensuring accuracy, compliance with regulations, policies and good practice. The main functions will include day to day bookkeeping, the preparation and reporting of financial results and annual budgets to the Management Committee and the Finance Sub-Committee. Ensuring financial information is well understood by non-finance colleagues will be a key element of this role.
An ACCA or ACA qualification or a degree in accounting, business, economics, finance, or a related field are required for this role.
The ideal candidate will embrace the EYECAN culture, which focusses on the needs of people with sight impairment and ensuring that the charity can deliver on its goal of developing its services to all areas of the community. The post holder will possess an up to date working knowledge of statutory legislation and regulations, strong planning and organisational skills alongside a proven track record in the field of finance and be proficient with the use of finance software. The role will be circa 20 hours a week on average. Work levels will vary dependent on the financial calendar, but genuine flexibility will be offered.

To communicate effectively with the Operations Director, Management Committee and Sub Committees and provide, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Committees to function properly and to make informed decisions
To work with the Treasurer to enable the Management Committee to fulfil their duties and legal and other responsibilities for the proper financial governance of EYECAN
To attend the Management Committee and Financial Sub Committee
To contribute to the EYECAN strategic planning process through undertaking research and analysis as directed by the Management Committee
To investigate and understand opportunities for grant applications, advising the Management Committee thereof
In consultation with the Operations Director, prepare and submit regulatory returns to the Charity Commission, Jersey Financial Services Commission and others as required
To manage the administration and submissions of claims under the Lump Sum Donation Scheme
To maintain suitable insurance cover in respect of the assets of EYECAN, Public Liability and Professional Indemnity, data protection etc.
To take appropriate steps to manage financial risks that could impact EYECAN significantly
To manage the preparation of annual budget acceptable to the Management Committee and ensure sound financial management of EYECAN within that budget proactively highlighting any variances
To undertake the preparation of an annual financial statement to ensure full and accurate disclosure
To liaise with auditors regarding audit of the annual financial statement and drafting of representation letters
To provide finance/management reporting as required and summarise/interpret financial information for the Management Committee while recommending further courses of action
To identify, at a strategic level, the data and processing requirements needed to ensure EYECAN’s effective use of technology to maintain its financial records and reporting requirements
To ensure EYECAN has documented policies, processes and procedures in places for all aspects of its financial functions
To ensure development of, in conjunction with the Operations Sub Committee, a ‘dashboard’ reporting mechanism structure to report against the key financial performance indicators (KPIs) and financial controls implemented
To manage the process for payment and accounting for staff salaries and benefits
To administer the day to day bookkeeping functions of EYECAN
To undertake any other duties which may be required by the Management Committee which are commensurate with the responsibilities of the post
